The much awaited Sriram Ragahavan directed, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Varun Dhawan starrer, `Badlapur`, impressed at the box-office with a 30-40 percent start, which ranks amongst the top openings of 2015. What must be kept in mind is that `Badlapur` does not have the usual commercial gimmicks nor can it be classified as a film which is in Varun Dhawan’s comfort zone, as it is stark, dark and hard hitting. The good thing is that the critics as well as the audience have both unanimously praised the film. The film also showed a significant pick up during the latter shows and should see one of the top opening day numbers of the year. Given the modest budget (all inclusive) of around 25 crore, `Badlapur` appears to be a probable winner.

 Roy  Verdict: Awaited
 Weekly Earnings: India Rs. 40 crore ; UK£70,000 ; US $165,000  Total Earnings: India Rs. 40 crore ; UK£70,000 ; US $165,000
Meanwhile, last week’s Vikramjit Singh directed Arjun Rampal, Ranbir Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer, ROY, could not quite capitalize on a fairly decent 28 crore opening weekend as the weekdays were not on the same level (barring the Mahashivratri holiday on Tuesday). Additionally the day with the biggest potential (Sunday) was hit hard by the Indo-Pak cricket match. `Roy` has been rejected in the Overseas.

 Shamitabh  Verdict: Flop

Meanwhile mega star Amitabh Bachchan’s Balki directed `Shamitabh` could not sustain after a decent weekend and saw low end numbers during the weekdays. `Shamitabh` is fair in the Overseas.

Moving on, Neeraj Pandey’s Akshay Kumar starrer, `Baby`, the film saw another steady week, despite new releases. `Baby` has performed well in the overseas grossing $2.2m.

Checking out the Vishesh Films` venture, `Khamoshiyan`, given the (7.5 crore ) satellite right already in, the modestly budgeted film, is a plus venture.
