As expected it was Alt Entertainment and Balaji Motion Pictures’ Sunny Leone starrer, `Raagini MMS -2`, which led the show from amongst this week’s multiple releases. Though the core audience which had thronged the cinemas expecting a mixture of horror and sex found the latter missing.

From the other releases, it was just the Sharman Joshi starrer `Gangs Of Ghost` which started on a somewhat sombre note, but picked up noticeably thanks to the clean entertaining content and a novel theme; a comedy film about ghosts!

 Bewakoofiyaan  Verdict: Average
Weekly Earnings: India Rs. 13 crore  Total Earnings: India Rs. 13 crore
PB Rating: 7.0 out of 10  Public Rating (by 8 unique users): 3.63
Director: Nupur Ashtana  Producer: Aditya Chopra
Music: Raghu Dixit, Ayushmann Khurrana, Rochak Kohli  Lyrics: Anvita Dutt, Habib Faisal, Ayushmann Khurrana, Rochak Kohli
Starring: Ayushmann Khurrana, Sonam Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor
 Genre: Romantic  Recommended Audience: General
Meanwhile Yash Raj Films’ Sonam-Ayushman starrer, `Bewakoofiyaan`, turned out to be film that appealed neither to the masses nor the classes. Having said that the Nupur Asthana directed 22 crore (all inclusive cost) venture, will be a profitable venture for the makers who are also the worldwide distributors and hold all the non-theatrical rights as well.

 Queen  Verdict: Hit
Weekly Earnings: India Rs. 18.50 crore  Total Earnings: India Rs. 37 crore ; UK £78,000 ; US$530,0000
PB Rating: 8.5 out of 10  Public Rating (by 35 unique users): 7.93
Director: Vikas Bahl  Producer: Anurag Kashyap Vikramaditya Motwane
Music: Ankit Trivedi  Lyrics: Anvita Dutta
Starring: Kangana Ranaut, Rajkummar Rao, Lisa Haydon, Mish Boyko, Guithob Joseph, Jeffrey Chee Eng Ho
Genre: Drama  Recommended Audience: Parental Guidance
The star of the year (as per the critics as well as the audience), the Kangana Ranaut and Rajkumar Rao starrer, `Queen`, returned almost identical figures in the second week as the first. Given the great Overseas run (read US)the low budgeted `Queen` will end up as biggest hit of the first quarter of 2014

 Gulaab Gang  Verdict: Below average
Weekly Earnings: India Rs. 1 crore  Total Earnings: India Rs. 15 crore
Though the Madhuri-Juhi starrer, `Gulaab Gang`, saw a decent opening weekend it failed to capitalize on it during the coming days. The Anubhav Sinha produced film will have to depend on non-theatrical rights for breaking even.

 Total Siyapaa  Verdict: Flop
Weekly Earnings: India Rs. 0.50 crore  Total Earnings: India Rs. 7.50 crore
The third release of the same week, the Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam starrer, `Total Siyapaa, saw a poor performance

Shaadi Ke Side Effects  Verdict: Semi-hit
Weekly Earnings: India Rs. 2 crore  Total Earnings: India Rs. 40 crore ; UK£276,000 ; US$935,000
PB Rating: 6.0 out of 10  Public Rating (by 5 unique users): 2
Director: Saket Chaudhary  Producer: Pritesh Nandy and Balaji Motion Pictures
Music: Pritam  Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya, Swanand Kirkire, Mayur Puri, Ankur Tiwari
Starring: Farhan Akhtar, Vidya Balan, Ram Kapoor and Vir Das
Genre: Comedy  Recommended Audience: Parental Guidance
Concluding with the Vidya-Farhan starrer, `Shaadi Ke Side/Effects`, the film crashed after a decent first week. Given the good Overseas run (especially US), the film is a success for all concerned.
