This Friday`s exciting new releases include Karan Johar`s Tarun Mansukhani directed `Dostana` and Vinay Pathak`s Shashant Shah directed `Dasvidaniya`. While the Abhishek, John, Priyanka and Bobby (special appearance) starrer `Dostana` us expected to embark on a good start, more so in the cities, the Vinay, Ranvir, Rajat and Neha venture will appeal to the niche multiplex audience of A and B centres. Both `Dostana` and `Dasvidaniya` apparently appear to be on a safe pitch thanks to some super publicity and honest teasers.

Last Friday`s first new release, the Balaji Motion Pictures Ltd. And Popcorn Motion Pictures Pvt. Ltd.`s Sanjay Dutt starrer, `EMI`, was released at 81 cinemas of Bombay thru Raksha Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and had dull to shockingly low opening across India. Trade predicts that `EMI` will meet with a poor fate at the ticket window. The film has also been rejected in the Overseas.

The other release of the week, Rajshri Productions Pvt. Ltd.`s `Ek Vivaah..Aisa Bhi` was released by the producers with a limited number of 5 prints in Bombay. The film saw an average opening in Bombay and an encouraging start at the smaller centres. Trade predicts that `Ek Vivaah..Aisa Bhi` may have taken a slow start, but it has the potential to grow from strength to strength. And there are indications of that already. In the Overseas, a limited release strategy for `EVAB` has not really worked. But then Overseas was not a territory where it was expected to achieve too much in the first place!

Golmaal Returns |

Total Earnings: India Rs. 41.50 crores ; UK$480,660 |

Rohit Shetty`s `Golmaal Returns` which had netted an astonishing 31 crores in its first five days run, crashed heavily Monday onwards. All the same the week has seen an astonishing total for `Golmaal Returns` from India. But given the heavy procurement price, the battle is far from over for its distributors, Indian Films. In the Overseas, `Golmaal Returns` has grossed decently in the UK, but is very ordinary in the US.

The second `Diwali` release, Madhur Bhandarkar`s `Fashion` too crashed after netting a good 15.90 crores during the extended holiday weekend. Given the rather high budget (for a Bhandarkar film) the producers and also the worldwide distributors UTV Motion Pictures have to rely on non–theatrical rights for even an average status. `Fashion` is a debacle in the Overseas.

Samir Karnik`s mutistarrer `Heroes` could not overcome the pre–`Diwali` release setback and the collections hit rock–bottom. Thankfully, the much appreciated film has managed to get to a decent rating. `Heroes` has also fared quite well in the Overseas.
