Box Office Report for the Week - 26 Jun 2009
Will ´New York´ Do It For The Beleagured Bollywood?
  - Abid           Let us know what you think about this box-office report

With even the films that released after the producers-distributors versus multiplexes face off failing to bring cheer to the beleaguered Bollywood, year 2009 is turning out to be one of the worse ever first half for the Hindi film industry. The first half of the year is about to end in a week`s time and the onus of ending it on a bright note is now on Yash Raj`s Kabir Khan directed John, Neil and Katrina starrer, `New York`.

 Paying Guests  Verdict: New
Weekly Earnings: -  Total Earnings: -
Last Friday`s Paritosh Painter directed `Paying Guests` was expected to fair decently, at least in the Bombay-Maharashtra belt, but unfortunately that did not happen. The start was below the mark across India as the Shreyas Talpade, Jaaved Jaaferi, Ashish Chaudhry, Celina Jaitley and Riya Sen starrer failed to tickle the funny bones. Trade feels that the Mukta Arts Entertainment Ltd.`s latest offering will prove to be a losing proposition as the comedy is more contrived than cool. The loss though won`t be monumental, thanks to the reasonable budget and the so-so first weekend.

 Let`s Dance  Verdict: Flop
Weekly Earnings: -  Total Earnings: -
The week also saw Advait Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and Asian Films Production And Distribution Ltd.`s Gayatri Patel starrer, `Let`s Dance`. The film saw a poor to weak opening everywhere. Needless to add that it will end up as a trade disaster.

 Raftaar- An Obsession  Verdict: Disaster
Weekly Earnings: -  Total Earnings: -
The third release of last Friday, Namaha Shivay Cinevision`s `Raftaar- An Obsession`, loosely based on the Martin Scorsese classic, `Cape Fear`, is a recipe for disaster!

 Kal Kissne Dekha  Verdict: Awaited
Weekly Earnings: India Rs. 6.50 crore  Total Earnings: India Rs. 6.50 crore ; US$23,437
Vashu Bhagnani`s Vivek Sharma directed `Kal Kissne Dekha` has been totally rejected, after a somewhat decent Saturday and Sunday. The Jackky-Vaishali debut vehicle is turning out to be a huge debacle.

 99  Verdict: Above average
Weekly Earnings: India Rs. 0.45 crore  Total Earnings: India Rs. 13 crores (approx.)
PB Rating: 8.0 out of 10  Public Rating (by 400 unique users): 5.17
Director: Krishna DK, Raj Nidimoru  Producer: Aditya Shastri, Anupam Mittal
Music: Shamir Tandon, Ashu, Roshan Machado, Mahesh Shankar  Lyrics: Vaibhav Modi, Amitabh Battacharya, Shabbir Ahmed, Chintan Gandhi
Starring: Kunal Khemu, Soha Ali Khan, Boman Irani, Cyrus Broacha, Simone Singh, Mahesh Manjrekar, Vinod Khanna, Amit Mistry
 Genre: Drama  Recommended Audience: General
The Vinod Khanna, Kunal Khemu, Soha Ali Khan, Boman Irani and Cyrus Broacha starrer, `99`, continues its steady run against all odds. The Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK directed film is one of the rare success of the year.
