Film insurance: Deewar insured for 30 crore
By: Abid

Film insurance is catching up in Bollywood .While it has been in Hollywood for a long time, it is only now that the Mumbai film industry is adapting and accepting it in a big way.

Last year, Gaurang Doshi gave us "Aankhen", a movie which was ´different´ in the real sense. "Aankhen" was a unique experiment in many ways, starting with the concept, treatment and down to the well etched characters .

Doshi has now gone a couple of steps further for his next under production "Deewaar" scheduled for release in Summer 2004, starring Amitabh, Akshaye Khanna and Sanjay Dutt in pivotal roles. We have already seen the preview of the movie even before the actual shooting has commenced and now the movie has been insured for Rs. 30 cr. The news was confirmed by Mr. Ajit Gupta of United India Insurance (A leading insurance company which has insured 40 movies up to now).

Some of the other movies that have previously been insured are Karan Johar´s magnum opus ´K3G´ for 22 cr, Ritesh Sidhwani´s ´Dil Chahta Hai´ for 18 cr, Subhash Ghai´s Taal for 11 cr and Yash Chopra´s Mohabbatein for 14 cr. Among the current ventures, we have heard that, Ek Aur Ek Gayarah (which released last week) was insured for 10 cr and Ramesh Sippy´s under production ´Kuch Na Kaho´ has been insured for 14 cr.

It is a move in the right direction for the film industry and may just bail it out from its current recession .
