Yes u heard me all your die-hard Manisha fans! For me, she was the biggest disappointment of the movie. I mean what did she have to do for 3 and half hrs? Jack all! All she did was walk around looking as if she's about to take an overdose! Ok, fair enough, as this is what her role required but she didn't even do it that well! Her acting was very patchy. She hardly had any dialogue, and her facial expressions were all over the place. And when she did say something, her dialogue delivery was not at all convincing. In all of her scenes she looked extremely uncomfortable, and as if she would rather be elsewhere. Its not really her fault, as her character didn't have much to it, but still she could have injected a bit more emotion into it! (by now i see Manisha fans wipping out their bazooka's and taking aim at me!) For me, Anil Kapoor stole the show! This guy is a class act, PERIOD! He gives such a great performance, and it only just adds to my opinion that he is the most versatlile actor out there. The first half (and probably even the whole film) belongs to one man- Mr 'Lakhan' himself! A proffesional at work... Jackie Shroff- Along with Manisha, this was another HUGE disappointment for me. In the trailors it looked as if Jackie would have a meaty part...but that couldn't be furthur from the truth! He is hardly in the film, just propping up every now and again. Just like Manisha, there isn't much to his character. But he is ok when he does show up...nothing amazing, just ok. But i must say, he is looking very slick indeed! Madhuri Dixit- Do i really need to say anything about her performance? In that case i wont! Lets just say that she isn't known as the queen of bollywood for nothing! She acts superbly, looks out of this world, and...nuff said. Rekha- She is even better than Madhuri! Bwooooooooy, what an actress! Along with Anil Kapoor, she is the highlight of the film. She delivers a gem of a performance... Mahima- The girl does good. I was impressed with her a great deal. Man, even Mahima was better than Manisha! (Manisha fans are now about to press the trigger on their bazooka's!) Ajay Devgan- Well he wasn't really in the film for that long, but he does well in his short role. After Anil, this in my opinion is the 2nd best male performance. Danny Denzongpa- Slighty disappointing. This is nowhere near his previous performances such as Agneepath, Pukaar etc...But still he plays his character with conviciton. (unlike that Manisha!!!) The film itself was a bit of a let-down for me- i was expecting better. It could have been a whole lot more gripping and moving...i wasn't very moved by it. Damini and Ghayal had me glued to my seat! Lajja didn't fullfill my expectations, but it is still pretty good. It is good to see female-orientated movies like Lajja, Astitva etc...We need more of them! After all, its all about GIRLPOWER!!! The actors that steal the show are Anil, Madhuri and Rekha. Manisha- the person who is meant to be the central character- is overshadowed by everyone! She doesn't show us any acting whatsoever. Only her speech at the end saves her from being a total washout. Ok, now i'll just sit back and wait for all the Manisha fans to write in and diss the living daylights outta me! I'm out like Manisha in Lajja...(!)
