After seven some long years in the making, one begins to wonder why the movie was even
released? Is this flick really going to have anything but a negative impact on Ajay's soaring career, Raveena's
rapidly sinking one, or add another hit under Amrish
"Mugambo" Puri's belt? What about
that so-called chartbuster, Laila something-painful-to-the-ears or another? But
out of all due respect to Bollywood flops, I decided to put up with this apparent comedy.
The movie starts off with a naajayaz aulad left at the steps of a
mandir, and a panditji goes ballistic and is ready to stone the bacha
when he spots the poor baby (and I thought that the panditji, of all people,
would be the most sympathetic and caring...hmmm...times are changing...!) Anyways, at the
last minute, the 'Gair' bacha is saved by mausi and
C.K. Oberoi (Amrish Puri), the big dada industrialist, and is taken under his
wings. The najayaz grows up to be Vijay Kumar (Ajay Devgan). Reena Roy plays
Oberoi's pathetic wife, Paresh Rawal is his evil and annoying brother-in-law, and some
loser plays his son, Raja.
Basically, Mamaji Paresh turns Reena Roy and Raja against Vijay
with the rumor that C.K. loves Vijay so much because Vijay is really his son. Amazing how
much doubt can build up in a stupid and baseless comment. Meanwhile, friend Judge saab's
beti, Madhu (Raveena), provides for Vijay's love interest and Raja's infatuation.
Reena and Raja go ballistic when C.K. agrees to let Vijay marry Madhu instead of his own
son, Raja (oooh, the family tension is unbearable now!), and both turn evil, joining
forces with Mamaji Paresh. As fate would have it, Judge saab, upon being
conveniently taunted by Mamaji and his whimpy hoodlums about Vijay's najayaz status,
decides to cut off the wedding and hand Madhu "the doormat" over to Raja
"the jerk". Drama unfolds, and the climax leaves us at the edge of our seats
(while we plan to bolt out of the room).
Terrible. Everything was terrible. Every scene was so ancient, it was a
bad 80's movie. Ajay looked like a mushroom-haired shrimp, Raveena was wayy too 80's, the
dark orange with sequins business suits for Ajay and pinky pinky clothes for Raveena were
revolting. Makeup was shocking, hair was flashing 'the worst of the 80's!', and the songs
and dances were cheesy. The dialogues were cheap, the scenes were overly dramatic and
underdeveloped, and there isn't much left to comment on. It was veryyy difficult to
differentiate recently-shot scenes from those years back....frankly, it didn't seem like
any scene was from the past four years! The acting on everyone's part was hopeless,
especially from disgusting Reena Roy and chumpu Raja.
Hopeless, hopeless, hopeless.
Save yourself the time, and spare the unnecessary pain of the worst of the
early 90's....it isn't worth it, even if you are an avid Amrish Puri fan (as I am sure you
all are. Mugambo khush hua! Nahin).
