Strike one for Raj Kanwar
Once again, Twinkle dissapoints. After her stupid UFF! YEH MOHOBBAT, one would have thought that ITIHAAS would be better. Unfortunately, it is worse. ITIHAAS is a weak love story that is a blatant attempt to copy Rakesh Roshan's KOYLA. The story is more or less the same. Like KOYLA, ITIHAAS is a village love story. In KOYLA, village belle Gauri (MADHURI DIXIT) was tricked into marrying evil Takhur (AMRISH PURI). In ITIHAAS, village belle Naina (TWINKLE) is tricked into sexually satisfying evil Takhur (RAJ BABBAR). Like KOYLA, the heroine is saved by a poor village man named Karan (In KOYLA's case, Shankar, played by SHAH RUKH). Then, the two lovesick fools have to escape the wrath of the evil Thakur, just like in KOYLA. And they eventually do (in both movies). ITIHAAS has a femme fatelle (SAPNA BEDI) just like Bindia (DEEPSHIKA) in KOYLA. Even with all these similarities, KOYLA was better (just barely).
This is not good for Raj Kanwar, who is still on a high with his 3 megahits JAAN, JEET, and JUDAAI. ITIHAAS will only bring him down. One wonders what Ajay Devgan did to deserve ITIHAAS. The movie does no justice to an actor of his caliber though his acting is barely adequate in this film. Twinkle once again shows her crummy acting skills. While watching her terrible acting, I found myself thinking: "THIS is Dimple's daughter?" Also, while watching the film, I wondered whether the movie's casting director was on drugs or not. One would have thought that Amrish Puri would have gotten the villainous role instead of the slimy Raj Babbar. Amrish would have worked wonders with that role as he always does. Sapna did okay for her second movie and looked very beautiful. Music is great by Dilip and Sameer Sen though Nadeem - Shravan would have done even a better job. Direction and screenplay is lousy. For your health people, don't watch this film. It is films like these that mar Bollywood. What a horrible film.
