After the longest time, Sunny Deol returns to the big
screen (finally!), along with the hidden away pardesi Apoorva and the
sometimes in-hiding Mahima. If they avoided movies in hope of Pyar
Koi Khel Nahin picking up their careers from a long dull period, they'd better
start signing movies left right and center before they inherit the B-wood Jinx.
The age-old 3-way Bollywood prem kahani involves two saabs and one
memsaab. Now what could that mean? Well, since the two heroes are brothers, the bhai-behen
and terrible terrible aashiq story is ruled out. Both bhais are also
kuware, so there goes the much older bhaiya blessing the two sweet lovebirds. So what's
left? Two bhais, both devoted to their families and the elder, Sunny, is Mr. Acha Sacha
Imaandaar Role Model Bhai Noble and Great Hero himself, and the younger, Apoorva.
The movie goes as such: Sunny (Anand) is a perfect son,
grandson, bhai, and whatever else he is...I suppose he would also make a wonderful
husband, great and devoted father, etc etc etc. He is dedicated to the betterment of his
family and puts all others before him, particularly his family, e.g. chota bhai Apoorva
(the imaandaar part). He also has taken the family business of soft drinks (no, not Sunny
Delight with a twist) upon himself at a very young age and spun gold out of it (dedication
part is applicable). He also has a younger bhai, Apoorva (Sunil), who is just there (no
fancy adjectives for him).
After events here and there, etc etc etc (think of double dates with a
twist--enter Friend A with Date B and Friend C with Date D, and A leaves with C and, well,
B and D , well, who cares!), enter Mahima (Nisha). In one day, yes, just
one whole long eventful 24 long hours, they fall in love *sigh*--how sweeeeet. (Yeck!)
With a relationship as solid as theirs, who can see anything in the future but marriage?
(Think of: mai tumhare bina *sob sob sob* mar jaungiiiiiii! *song song and another song*)
Meanwhile, it's time for Sunny to get hitched, and after much prodding, he agrees
(pushover). Who's the lucky girl? Well, hmm, since there's only ONE
heroine (in a single role), just guess.
Conflict: Apoorva loves Mahima, Sunny loves Mahima. Sunny
is rejected by Mahima because of some mysterious loverboy, and Apoorva rejects Mahima
because he decides to sacrifice his day-old love for his 20+ year long love for his bade
bhaiya.
Despite all of this love flowing, Sunny gets Apoorva and Mahima married,
baby is coming along, and meanwhile, tragedy knocks on their door and Apoorva
mysteriously dies (meaning, without the laash--think of Aarzoo all over again).
As the dutiful bhai (and much to his secret delight, I bet), Sunny marries Mahima.
Oh right, don't forget that this is a Dushum Dushum Sunny movie,
so villians prance in, do their stuff, and create conflict. The rest, well, you are just
going to have to watch the movie for the much (needed) suspense.
Sunny can fight, Sunny can act, but Sunny, weepy and emotional?
Nope. Mahima can prance, he can...can....can....but act? Dance? Nope. Apoorva can
look good, he can... can...but act? Dance? Nope. Oh wait, Sunny and dance
don't go either. (Didn't want you all to get your hopes up). Mahima had
class in Pardes,
she looked nice and she looked, well, cultured and desi (a rarity in Hindi flicks
nowadays). She ditched a bit of that in Daag, and did so in this flick as well, for the
most part. (Yeck!) It's no wonder why this is Apoorva's second release
after the long-gone Pardes--you would have thought that he would have used that time
wisely and learned to, well, ACT (and helped his going-to-be-saali-one-day (?) Mahima
along with a few helpful tips).
Clothes were okay, dances weren't anything spectacular, and songs
were average.
Verdict? Good timepass film.
