Safari....
Take the typical Sanjay Dutt-Juhi Chawla (lack of chemistry), wind it
back six years, stick them in a jungle, sing some ridiculous songs, and wish that they
would just get lost somewhere in the jungle and the cameraman would be attacked by some
monkey, his camera stolen, and we would have to go through the pain and torture no
longer...and well, you have Safari !
Anjali (Juhi) is a businesswoman who wishes to set up a
factory on the island of Manjiri, a jungle that is untouched by modernization. She meets
Captain Kishan (Sanjay Dutt), who is head honcho and protector of the
island, and they fall in love. Upon returning to Mumbai, her disinterested and curt,
ultra-snobby mother, Tanuja, has set her up to marry a total moron who is also their
manager, Shekhar (Mohnish Behl). Her father (Suresh Oberoi,
who actually looks like Tanuja's son in the movie rather than husband), has taken a liking
in Captain's simplicity yet sincerity and comedic shrewdness. Captain comes to Mumbai to
tell Anjali he loves her, and is struck down by Mohnish and her mother. Her father helps
re-unite the lovers. Boring.
Quick comments: The story was cheesy, silly, outdated, and boring. The cinematography was
okay, some jungle shots were nice, but overall, the plot and shots was lackluster. The
fake bear was especially entertaining. The songs were downright stupid (as also indicated
in my music review), and the catchiest song, if that, was Kluk Kluk Kluk (sad,
huh?).
The acting on everyone's part was strained and even the actors look
downight bored. The clothing, makeup, and hairstyles were so old, the entire movie should
have been re-shot rather than just picking up from where jailboy Dutt left it. The new
shots were blatantly evident and should have been blended in better. Better yet, the movie
should have just remained canned, and spared the audience severe trauma and unavoidable
bouts of pain. Sum up? Don't watch it, even if you are extremely bored.
