The Padmalaya films banner has been revived once again with another South-remake. This time around they have chosen superstar Govinda at the head of their latest social-comedy, multi-starrer Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya. The music is somewhat of a disappointment compared to the 80s Bappi-Lahiri numbers of most Padmalaya films.

The soundtrack opens with the group number Ayee Hai Diwali. Featuring Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Shaan, Alka Yagnik, Sneha Pant, and Ketki Dave, the track is a festive number for the Diwali holiday. Considering Diwali is just around the corner, what better way to promote the film and this song of course. It is a nice, peppy number with all the singers lending able support. It is also great to hear a soundtrack open with a festive number rather than another "Love-you" style track.

Ta Thaiya Ta Thaiya with Preeti-Pinky, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Shaan follows. A dance-style number, it discusses the long-lived battle of the sexes once again. It is a good follow-up to the festive opening number.

Next we have Chori Chori Tera Chalna with Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. Referring to the heroines´ movements as "items" and vice versa, the song can be skipped.

The title track with Udit Narayan, Shaan, and Johny Lever is next. Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya describes the plight of the citizens of India, where expenses are much greater than salaries. An interesting effort from Udit Narayan and Shaan with able support from Johny Lever. The song gives an insight into the film.

Style Nasha Tera is next with Udit Narayan, Babul Supriyo, and Sunidhi Chauhan. An upbeat number but lacks that certain punch to make it a hit track. Udit puts life into his vocals, Babul is passable and Sunidhi keeps in-tact with the mood of the song.

The soundtrack closes with Babul Supriyo and Sunidhi Chauhan crooning to Sajanniya Re. A passable song worth listening to only once, nothing more, nothing less.

All in all, Himesh Reshamiya is not able to give one single hit number in the album (or "item" number as a certain No. 1 star prefers to call it). The zesty, techno-beats are passable but not a single song stays in your head after the album ends. The album is a far cry from their hits last year like Dulhan Hum Le Jayange and Kurukshetra. When you have other melodious albums releasing this month (like Yeh Dil Aashiqana, Pyaasa, and Raaz), the music of Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya will probably find itself sitting on store shelves untouched. As for the film, it is a South-remake revolving around the lives of three middle-class couples. How their lives change when a fourth, younger couple moves in forms the crux of the film. Govinda is basically there in the film to lend star-support as it is another launch vehicle for nephew Vinay Anand. Will Vinay finally succeed? I hope so, otherwise he will become Relaunched Star No. 1 until Mama Govinda can get him a hit film. I don´t think the producers of Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya and Censor are laughing at this one.
