"Border Hindustan Ka" is an oft-delayed movie that has been a few years (if not decades) in the making. At the time that this film was being shot a couple of years ago, the producers marvelled at how quickly the soundtrack had been composed. Listening to the songs, one wonders how long it took Dilip-Hari Kishen to compose the six tunes. Two minutes, if my guess is anything to go by. When the music team (composers and lyricist) consists of people that you have not heard of before, it is natural to expect maybe something slightly fresh and different from other over-used music directors. Sadly, that is not the case. This album plumbs new depths of utter mediocrity. The tunes are insipid. The lyrics are dire. Perhaps, the only exception is "Balle Balle Ve Tor" (Udit Narayan, Jaspinder Narula). A regular filmi Bhangra track, it is lively enough to just about sustain a listenerīs interest. Evidently, the trailors are banking on this to be the īhitī number. Mohd. Aziz turns up in a boring weepy wedding song "Beti Dhan Begana". His flat rendition makes this song unlistenable. Thankfully, the track is kept very brief. Sonu Nigam sleepwalks his way through "Hum Hind Ke Veer", a laughable attempt at a patriotic song. In "Powarh Paigaya Re", Narula and Sukhwinder Singh are their usual enthusiastic selves but unfortunately it is much ado about nothing. Singers can huff and puff as much as they like but even they canīt save a redundant tune. "Soni Peer Faqeer" (Narayan, Narula and Prem Bhatia) is the epitome of ultimate boredom. The singers sound like they cannot wait to get home and go to sleep. Kumar Sanu and Vinod Rathod join Narayan in another sleep-inducing track, "Yaad Aati Hai". Itīs a wonder that the singers did not have a slip of the tongue and sang "Neend aati hai" instead. An obnoxious attempt at something emotional, this is the kind of the song that will have you wanting to pick up that tape and throw it at the wall. An album full of mostly forgettable tunes, this soundtrack should be renamed "Boredom Hindustan Ka". |
