The team from Saathiya in 2002 are re-joining hands to bring us “Bunty Aur Babli”. The film has big expectations as it stars father-son Abhishek and Amitabh Bachchan (for the first time together), as well as the current top actress Rani Mukherji.

Obviously, the music will surely be compared to Shaad Ali’s first venture, Saathiya.. So is the album worth the buy? Let’s see!

The album begins with Dhadak Dhadak sung by Udit Narayan and Sunidhi Chauhan. There is a sequence where Nihira Joshi is credited by singing dhin-dhinak-dhin-dhin-dhin-dha. The song sounds like something we’d hear in a small town, where people are looking to travel to a bigger city for new opportunities, nonetheless, the singing is adequate and upbeat. It’ll take a few listens before you get used to it.

Chup Chup Ke is on my repeat list for 2005. It’s the best song of the album, picturized on the main characters in beautiful locales (as seen in the promos). The lyrics are beautiful and its obvious to have Gulzar’s mark all over it. It has a nice fusion of indian and western beats, with the sitar being the highlight. The singing by Sonu Nigum and Mahalaxmi Iyer is wonderful and addictive.

Nach Baliye will surely be in clubs in the next few months. Personally, I never thought Shankar Mahadevan could pull off singing a punjabi number, but he succeeds. Somya Raoh supports him well in the singing with Loy Mendosa supporting for the other portions. The question to ask is, why are most albums have the necessary punjabi number? Well, either way, the song works enough to feel like dancing.

The title track, Bunty Aur Babli, has some Banaras style beats. Its fun and describes the main characters and how they cause havoc. It has some shades of the punjabi flavor with Sukhwinder Singh , Jaspinder Narula being the main singers with Shankar and Siddharth Mahadevan as well. Result: It’s a good song!

B n B is the english version of the title track sung by Blaaze (lyrics are also credited to Blaaze). Personally, it was an average track and may not suit all listeners with the english rap.

The final track is a qawaali number (I’m guessing Bunty Aur Babli are in some sort of disguise). I’m surprised that Alisha Chinoy sung this song because she is surprisingly good and adds a different twist altogether. Shankar Mahadevan and Javed Ali add more spice to Kajra Re. It’s a sure-fire hit.

Overall, Shakhar-Ehsaan-Loy do an excellent job of 1) getting different singers for each track, 2) trying to infuse different beats together and 3) creating an album worth buying. It’ll take a few listens to pick your favourites, but its fresh and an above average album to own. Enjoy!
