GOVINDA, DAVID DHAWAN, and SUNJAY DUTT are together once again on the big screen for the third time in TIME MAGNETICīs JODI NO. 1. Whether the film will be No. 1 at the box office we will know in April but for now we can enjoy itīs peppy music by HIMESH RESHAMMIYA and ANAND RAAJ ANAND which is in typical Dhawan-Govinda form.

The album begins with the upbeat LAAL CHUNARIYA by SONU NIGAM and ALKA YAGNIK. While the "Chunari" theme has been done to death of late, this number still manages to keep your attention due to Sonuīs liveliness and Alkaīs zest.

Next we have ABHIJEET and SUNIDHI CHAUHAN (a filmi favorite of late) in TERI BINDIYA. While the song is no great shakes with rhyming lyrics like "bindiya" and "India," it is done in typical David Dhawan-filmi form, meaning a great time-pass song.

POP SINGER HANS RAJ HANS is next with ANKH LAD GAYEE. Punjabi and Bhangra lovers will definitely hit the repeat button on their CD deck for this one as it is a great dance number. Although the song has more of a "Pop" feel to it, it none-the-less continues to carry the upbeat tempo of the soundtrack.

MERI MEHBOOBA with SONU NIGAM follows. A typical Govinda-teaser number with the hero making his feelings felt to his heroine no. 1. Sonu does a good job with this number and has had oodles of practice from the last dozen or so Govinda starrers he has sung for.

The TITLE track is next with SONU NIGAM, KUMAR SANU, and ALKA YAGNIK. JODI NO. 1 describes how certain pairs are incomplete without each other. The trio do an adequate job with the inane lyrics but the track doesnīt match the zest of the Jodi No. 1īs last film HASEENA MAN JAYEGIīs title track.

Following this we have the avoidable Ande Ka Phanda with newcomer Pratik Joseph. Any song dedicated to an egg doesnīt need any explanation. If you are used to David Dhawan numbers, this one makes RAJA BABUīs numbers sound like PAKEEZAHīs. Definitely an avoidable fare.

The obligatory dosti song for any 2-hero project is next. TERA MERA DOSTANA is with KUMAR SANU and SONU NIGAM singing praises about their love and friendship. Both singers do a great job with perhaps the slowest number on the album. It shows their versatility and why they are the top singers they are today. Also it is nice to hear a friendship song after a long gap of Bhangra and romantic numbers the last few months.

The album ends with SONU NIGAM(yet again) and SUNIDHI CHAUHAN in MAST MAST. No this isnīt a rendition of the AKSHAY number but a new one. The punjabi flavor will appeal to a certain crowd and it is a proper closure for this typical DAVID DHAWAN soundtrack.

After listening to the 8 tracks of JODI NO. 1 you donīt even have to look at the credits and will know it is a DAVID DHAWAN or GOVINDA film. The soundtrack is ahead of the duoīs last film KUNWARA but not quite upto par with HASEENA MAN JAYEGI(wonder what happened to ANU MALIK for the JODI NO. 1 had worked with him in TAAQATWAAR and HMJ-why not make it a hattrick).

As for the film, it has DAVID DHAWAN attempting to remake one of the biggest HINDI films of all time. Which one you ask? Itīs not the one about a wedding and 14 songs, itīs not the one about a pair of NRI lovers from LONDON who end up in PUNJAB, but one about a pair of crooks who reform themselves to help a village. Replace the village with a FACTORY and you have JODI NO. 1. But donīt take my word for it, watch it in APRIL and judge for yourself. Enjoy the music until then.
