This music review introduces you to a new film on male strippers! But donīt be so shocked.
Itīs not the first of itīs kind (remember Kaizad Gustadīs Bombay
Boys?). Deepak Tijoriīs
directorial debut features some outstanding music and lyrics by Ravi Pawar and
Ajay Jhingran that are truly hatke. Oops!
serves as a revitalizing change from the average Bollywood soundtrack.
Shaan leaves the listener breathless through his wonderfully restrained
rendition of "Yaahein". The composition is novel and
the song doesnīt take long to win you over. By the end of the song, you are sure to be
reaching for the rewind button!
The music of Oops! introduces us to the versitility of Harshdeep, who was
last heard in Aapko
Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai. She blows you away in the pop-styled song, "Alag Alag."
Combined with different lyrics and fun composition, "Alag Alag" makes for a good listen.
In "Uljalu" (meaning īirrelivantī), a song that takes
unpleasant shots at society, Harshdeep adds a sultry tone to her voice and electrifies the listener. The unusual lyrics add flavor to the song. The song is repeated,
this time sung by Sonu Nigam. Although Sonu can sing almost anything
flawlessly, his version of the song pales in comparison to Harshdeepīs. The music, of
course, is fast-paced and extremely loveable.
"Jaane Yeh Kya" makes Oops! an official Bollywood
soundtrack. How so? Because itīs a romantic number and we all know that a Hindi movie is incomplete without one! However, "Jaane Yeh Kya"
is one of the best love songs, in terms of composition and singing, that weīve been subjected to all year. Itīs gentle on the ears
and carries a catchy beat. The lyrics are typical for a love song. Sonu Nigamīs voice is so perfect, that he makes you wish the
song never ends! Sung in award-winning style, this is the best song in the movie!
After a long time, Hariharan appears in a Hindi soundtrack. The ghazal,
"Aye Dil" is soft and Hariharanīs deep vocals sooth
the listener throughout the entire song. The lyrics are simple, but effective. The
composition is hauting, along the lines of the Jagjit Singh ghazal "Koi
Faryaad" from Tum
Bin. All in all, "Aye Dil" is a wonderful song.
Then there is the "in-your-face" (in terms of composition) song, "Bhadka
de," sung solo by KK and then in a duet with Sunidhi Chauhan. The song is very heavy on beats, and does get a little
loud. It may not be as welcoming to the ears as the other songs, but still makes for a unique song.
One thingīs for sure: Deepak Tijori sure knows how to fetch great music for a film! Oops! is a sure keeper for the collection. How can you go wrong with a soundtrack that varies in composition, lyrics, and singers!
Songs like "Uljalu," "Jaane Yeh Kya," and "Aye Dil" will certainly keep Oops! in your CD
player for a long time to come!
