So enamoured with this tune are the duo that they use it again for "Tumko Hi Chahenge Hum", which is identical to "Pyar To Hota…." except for the lyrics and the singers. The off-key newcomers, Saud Khan and Prabha Bharati, aren’t able to match Udit and Alka’s renditions which are the saving grace of the first number. I wonder whether using the same tune has some significance in the film’s story or whether it is just laziness on Sanjeev-Darshan’s part. The traditionally inspired Punjabi number, "Jindri" is very enjoyable and Udit Narayan has a blast zipping through the number. However, the song is let down by the female vocals. Preeti Uttam is a good singer but her voice is too soft and fragile for this raucous track. A more powerful female vocalist (Jaspinder Narula anyone?) was needed here. Jaspinder Narula sings with her usual gusto alongside Farid Sabri and Sarika in, "Jo Pallu Gira Diya". The abysmally repetitive lyrics make this semi-qawwali seem tediously long, despite the good singing and catchy chorus. "Duniya Mein Aaye Ho To Yaaron, Kuch Karke Jaana" has Vinod Rathod preaching to a bunch of kids. The lyrics to this extremely dull tune were probably supposed to sound inspirational but just end up sounding patronising. Vinod’s other number is "Deva Ho Deva" with Farid Sabri, which is blatantly pilfered from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s, "Allah Hoon, Allah Hoon". Where is the talent displayed by Sanjeev-Darshan in Deewane, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai and even parts of Rishtey? The duo are fast becoming ‘has-beens’ and need to resurrect their flagging careers with their next few projects. Simply put, they need a super hit, and fast! |
