GOVINDA
continues his No. 1 tradition in 1999 with ANARI NO. 1, with music by Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen
rather than his usual No. 1 music duo Anand-Milind and direction by Kuku Kohli not DAVID
DHAWAN. But these factors don't make the music of Anari No. 1 any different from his past
No. 1 capers, which means the soundtrack is filled with fast-paced, peppy numbers.
The soundtrack begins with the OBLIGATORY "CHICHI-item" number "DHEERE
DHEERE HUM DONO MEIN" sung by ABHIJEET and ALKA
YAGNIK. The song is catchy and fast-paced and has already begun to climb up on
the countdown charts. It is also safe to say this may be the one song that stays in your
mind after the tape or CD is removed from your deck.
The next track "TUJHE DEKH KE JAANE JAANA" is also
a fast-paced number sung by SONU NIGAM and ALKA YAGNIK. For some odd
reason, producer Aruna Irani must have felt Dilip and company weren't doing a great job or
something for they chose percussionist-turned-music director AADESH SRIVASTAVA to do the
music for this one number.
Following this we have ABHIJEET and Punjaban JASPINDER NARULA
singing "MAIN HOON LADKI KUNWARI", filling the void of
the required PUNJABI number for the film. The song has a typical-Govinda
t-"ouch" to it, once you listen to it, you'll know what I mean.
Next we have "PAAGAL MUJHE BANA GAYA HAI" with KAVITA
KRISHNAMURTHY and ABHIJEET. The song is passable and doesn't stop the pace of the
peppy soundtrack.
On the flip side, we have AMIT KUMAR, PRADEEP SURI,
and chorus singing a devotional number "BOL HARI BOL HARI."
It is nice to hear Amit's voice after so many years, especially in a Govinda film where
Amit used to dominate. The song discusses the "material-needs" of one of the
characters CHICHI plays in the film(ChiChi has a double role-one greedy character, one
seedha-saadha character) through Amit Kumar's vocals.
Next there is "MAIN LAILA LAILA" which features
ABHIJEET and JASPINDER NARULA again. The lyrics are typical Dev Kohli stuff (read: double
meaning and vulgar), involving "kurta paar ke," and "thanda" to
"garam" so you might want to keep this number a little on the low-volume side.
"A.B.C.D.E.F.G." follows with UDIT NARAYAN
and KAVITA KRISHNAMURTHY. The number really doesn't need any mention, I hardly doubt it
will even feature in the film, but if it is, remember it's a Govinda film, so sub kuch
maaf hai.
The soundtrack ends with KUMAR SANU(where was he the whole time?) and PREETI
UTTAM (another surprise singer) singing "LE AAYA HOON CAR..."
The number is a little slower than the rest, providing a fitting end to the fast-paced
sountrack but is no "Kuch na Kaho" or anything like that.
Purchase ANARI NO. 1's music if you are a GOVINDA fan (like me) or like peppy,
fast-paced numbers because there's no sad songs or pure romantic songs here at all. If
neither of these are your liking, you might want to grab a KACHCHE
DHAAGE or HOGI PYAR KI JEET instead. As for a preview on
the film, it revolves around two UNRELATED lookalikes who get mistaken for each other and
later use that to their advantage. No guesses to where that was inspired from but hey it's
Govinda and again with ChiChi sub kuch maaf hai (everything is forgiven).
