Dahek: A BURNING PASSION
The cover depicts Sonali and Akshaye, soaking wet and holding flowers. Yep, the burning passion is just shining through. Looks more like sickly sweet high school romance.

The audio begins with Jab Se Tumhein.....Akshaye and Sonali suffer from "Obsessive (read:Bollywood romance)" disorder....Anuradha Paudawal, the filmi-turn-devotional singer, does a decent job, but its Udit who carries the song. The lyrics (Jab se tumhein maine dekha/jana sanam...) are sweet, clean, and simple. The music itself, though likely lifted from here and there, are a good mix of traditional (typical) beats with just a little 'modernity'. Catchy and sweet!

The second song, Sawan Barse Tarse Dil, is obviously going to be one of those prance-in-the-rain songs-blah. The song itself is okay, with the background music slow and scarce. Some songs are better carried with little music and most, with strong music and good singing. The singing itself isn't anything spectacular, with Hari Haran (who sounds too nasally and feminine) and Sadhana Sargam sounding a little wornout and "deele". Okay, nothing amazing.

Meri Jaan Hai Tu is sung twice, on Side A/song 3 (by Roopkumar Rathod) and Side B/song 2 (Alka Yagnik). It's the typical rohna dohna song. First time listening, fine, second time, boring, and by the third, all I thought when I heard the droning of 'meri jaan hai tu, mere jaane jaan....mai kaise jiyu, mai kaise jiyu' was mujhe koi farak nahin parta, tum jaise bhi jiyo, jiyo, magar please gana aur rohna band kar do. Hit the fastforward button. Next!

The last song on Side A is easily the hit song of the album. "Tujhe Dekhte Hi Yeh Dil Kho Gaya Hai". Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik sing quite well together, and the background music is lovey-dovey, sweet, and has a great mix traditional beats with an upbeat, catchy spirit. Very nice, light-hearted love song!

Side B starts with Ho Gori Aaja, a leftover from the Mustafa Mustafa song from Aatish, badly mixed with a typical lovey dovey Dahek song. The song begin with the lyrics, Alooa Alooa--I have yet to figure out the significance of alooa in a love song *wink*. Separate the Aloo part and the Cham Cham Nachi Paraa parts and you've got two nice songs...instead, Sonali is chamchaming amongst Alooas. Next!

The last song, Kaha Kare Koiee, is an okay song....nice timepass. Nothing wow, but nothing to fast forward. Balances the better and sillier songs on this album. Again, Udit carries the song, and Sadhana sounds a little too sweet...sickly sweet. and the music is a lot like the rest of the songs. Good timepass

Quick picks:
Best: Jab Se Tumhein and Tujhe Dekhte Hi Yeh Dil Kho Gaya Hai
"Blah": Meri Jaan Hai Tu and Ho Gori Aaja
Verdict: Dahek may be a burning passion, but the songs are just simmering on low heat.
