With the plethora of sickly sweet love songs flooding the film music scene lately, SALAAKHEN comes as a breath of fresh air! This soundtrack offers a variety of vocal talent, from the high pitched Anuradha Paudwal to the heavy, husky vocals of Shweta Shetty.

Abhijeet and Shweta kick things off with a fast, arabian style song, "Dhak Dhak". This song has a familiarity about it but the source of this familiarity remains elusive. It's an enjoyable number anyway. The trick is to not get too hung up on whether it is copied or not; the song serves its purpose - FUN!

Shweta goes it alone for "Pichhu Pade Hai" which I think is supposed to mean "Peechhe Pade Hai". Shweta tells us all about the multitude of admirers pursuing her. Shweta's 'Tina Turneresque' growls are a treat!

"Paagal Diwana Awara" is a run of the mill number made palitable by Vinod Rathod and the ever improving Chitra. Dilip and Sameer Sen seem to have derived this song from two separate sources. The chorus sounds similar to "Jise Pyar Zamana Kehte Hai" from the as yet unreleased '80's movie TADAP; and the verses are similar to the old Shammi Kapoor hit "Dil Tera Diwana Hai Sanam".

"Zubaan Pe Jo Nahin Aaye" sounds like an old Kalyanji-Anandji number. The song is enjoyable and sung well by Udit Narayan and Chitra. The 'pseudohumming' is the real catchphrase of this song! (You'll know what I mean when you hear it!)

Its party time! The fast bhangra style number, "Punjabi Kudee Maare Jhatke" showcases two recent and very talented singers. Both Hema Sardesai and Lalit Sen infuse real energy into the song, making it a rewind candidate!

What did I say about sweet love songs? Well, I suppose one can be forgiven. "Paagal Karna Pagal Hona" by Anuradha Paudwal and Udit Narayan is a pleasant romantic number. At least it doesn't sound like a reject from a Yash Chopra film!

Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik round things off with a bit of a tongue twister, "Aisi Aisi Aisi....Dil Mera Le Gayee". This song seems to be a retread over Dilip/Sameer Sen's earlier "Pappiya Jhappiya" number from HAQEEQAT.

This Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen-Guddu Dhanoa collaboration is an enjoyable affair but doesn't quite match their previous musical offerings (TU CHOR MAIN SIPAHI, ZIDDI and AFLATOON).
