Music in Mahesh Bhatt directed movies "Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Ayee" and "Sir", turned Anu Malik’s career around. The team didn’t have much success in "Naajayaz" and "Naaraaz" and only moderate success in "Chaahat". Now Anu Malik has gone back to proven and tested style of "Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Ayee" in "Tamanna", a movie produced by Pooja Bhatt and directed by Mahesh Bhatt.

The first track is a nice duet "Yeh kya hua, yeh kyoon hua, kabse sambhala tha dil ko kahan kho gaya" written by Rahat Indori and sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik.

Second number is a beautiful ghazal "Shabke jage huye taaron ko bhi neend aane lagi, aapke aane ki ek aas bhi ab jaane lagi" penned by Nida Fazli and sung by Kumar Sanu. It has some difficult Urdu words, but one can still sing-along.

The third number is a sad, slow song "Uth meri jaan mere saath hi chalna hai tujhe" written by Kaifi Azami and sung by Sonu Nigam.

The fourth number is another beautiful worded song, "Ye aaine jo tumhe kum pasand karte hain, inhe khabar hai tumhe hum pasand karte hain" written by Indeewar and sung by Kumar Sanu.

B-side starts with "Shabke jage huye taaron ko bhi neend aane lagi", this time sung by Alka Yagnik. Both versions have same wordings and sung equally well.

The second song on side B "Ghar se masjid hai bahut door chalo yun kar le, kisi rote huye bachche ko hasaya jaye" is sung by Sonu Nigam and written by Nida Fazli. The song has a message of turning negatives into positives, like "Gam akela ho to saanson ko sataata hai bahut, dard ko dard ka hamdard banaya jaye" and "bujhate sooraj se chiragon ko jalaya jaye".

The last song "Aaj kal aaj kal, mere honthon par haseen hai aaj kal" is sung by Alka Yagnik and written by Rahat Indori. The wordings suggest the song to be happy, but the tune is slow, music "crying" and singing as if the singer hasn’t had laughter (haseen) for ages.

In conclusion, "Tamanna" has a nice melodious music for those who don’t like present day popular pop, bhangra, rap and break dance.
