Rajesh Roshan's latest, YUGPURUSH, is better than his previous two releases, MSBK and GHULAM-e-MUSTAFA, but ends up being just OK. Side one starts off with BANDHAN KHULA PANCHHI UDAA, a boring track with annoying and repetative lyrics and a simple tune that almost put me to sleep. Preeti Singh and Ravindra Sathe (Yeshwant) render it well, but the song still doesn't deliver. I keep asking myself, why was this song the opener to the album? Probably just poor selection with the music company. The next track, CHALE HUM DO, is a nice song with a repeat on the next side. Sung by Kumar Sanu and Ravindra Sathe, the lyrics are okay and tune is catchy. YE JEEVAN PATH MERA, a solo by Ravindra Sathe, is also an okay number with good lyrics and music. AE MERI JAAN MAIN is a good number with good vocals by Sonu Nigam but shakey singing by Kavita Paudwal (Anuradha's daughter). The tune is good but the lyrics by Rani Malik are just okay. Side two opens up with KOI JAISE MERE DIL KA, a great track sung by Asha Bhosle. It has a solid tune and great singing by Asha. The rest of the songs, KANHAIYA SE KAHIYA and HELLO HELLO AAYEE (your guess is as good as mine), are just bad. Out of the eight tracks on this tape, 1 is good, 2 are nice, 1 is just okay, and 3 are terrible. A mixed bag from a sinking composer. Hopefully, the movie, starring JACKIE SHROFF, MANISHA, NANA PATEKAR, and ASHWINI BHAVE, will be a slick thriller, just like most of Parto Ghosh's other movies. As for the music, in a word, it is just... OK!
