The First Hindi Film Ever Filmed Entirely in the United States Planet Bollywood was one of the only sites who bothered to report that Jimmy Shergill and Kim Sharma, the Mohabbatein duo, were in New York/New Jersey filming their untitled film. The stars were sincere in their filming and had even attended a number of Diwali and Navratri ceremonies that were popular amongst the Indo-American communities in New Jersey. So there should be no reason then for Bollywood not to accept their latest offer, titled, Kehtaa Hai Dil Baar Baar.
The film has its entire backbone based on the United States, and for that case should appeal more to the NRI audience. While several films have shot portions of their films in the United States, not one has had its entire landscape on American soil. From New York City to New Jersey, the entire film is all American. On the contrary, the music by Jatin-Lalit, one of their backlogged films, is said to be quite melodious and more Indian. Perhaps what stands out more is that the director, Rahul Dholakia is an American based director who has acquired his Masters degree from the New York Institute of Technology. In any case, not much has been revealed about the film but brief character sketches which build up an American style love story. Life Is Beautiful
The highlight of the film are the two comedians, Paresh Rawal and Jhonny Lever, both of who do a little bit of comedy and serious ness in the film (much less in the case of the latter). These two characters will play characters hand in hand in the film. Roger Patel (Paresh) is an Indo-American NRI whose family traits are those as if he was in India. Sunder (Jimmy Shergill) is a happy go lucky character with charm, a good job and lots of aspirations in the Big Apple. Ritu (Kim) is a pediatrician who lives in New York, another happy go lucky character.
The film is to release in Spring 2002 and while we wait we can enjoy or hope to enjoy a romantic soundtrack by Jatin-Lalit. |
