Cashing in on the popularity of Bollyood films and stars like Shah Rukh Khan in China, Nur Bekri, governor of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, plans to invite Indian film producers to stunningly picturesque locales in his province.

Bekri will go to Mumbai Saturday where he plans to go to some film studios and meet some film producers, reliable sources said.

He plans to invite Indian filmmakers to shoot films in Xinjiang, the Muslim-majority Chinese province located on the ancient Silk Route, where Indian films are very popular.

Bekri, a rising star in the Chinese Communist Party, Thursday met Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahai and discussed ways to expand tourism between Xinjiang and India.

In his talks, Sahai focused on developing tourism infrastructure with mutual help. Sahay also told Bekri about India's plan to develop Buddhist and Sufi circuits which may be of keen interest to Chinese tourists.

They also discussed the possibility of direct flights between Xinjiang and India.

Bekri also met Vice President Hamid Ansari and Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma.
