Popular Bollywood actor Salman Khan honoured 11 specially abled achievers from around the country at the second 'Super Idols' function here.

The actor also presented Rs 1,11,000 to each of the winners.

Salman gave away trophies and certificates last night to achievers like 21-year-old Delhi-based dancer, Vinod Thakur, who lost both his legs, yet went on to participate in a national talent show and is preparing for 'America's got Talent'.

Wheelchair-bound Samuel Mani, suffering from Cerebal Palsy, has become the first Indian to be appointed Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR).

India's first bronze medalist winner in Commonwealth Games (CWG) in 50 metres freestyle, para swimmer Prasanta Karmakar, and visually impaired Madhu Singhal, who founded the Mitra Jyoti charitable trust to integrate people with special abilities into mainstream society.

Speaking at the event, Salman said, ''When I come for events like this all the petty troubles that surround me seem to melt away. We should take the winners around Mumbai, to show people their achievements and maybe the city will be a better place.

Unfortunately, films on these issues don't work at the box office. I once was part of a film which had HIV/AIDS as a story, and not even the stray dogs come to watch it.'' He was joined by Bollywood composer-singer, Bappi Lahri and editor-in-chief, IBN7 channel, Rajdeep Sardesai.

Also honoured were two 'Idol Makers', Dr Mithu Alur who has championed the rights of challenged children and Dr Usha Panjabi, who runs the 'Mook Badhir Sangathan' that provide security and opportunity to the illiterate and unemployed with hearing impairedness.

The event was organized by news channel IBN7, insurance company Bajaj Allianz and newspaper group Dainik Jagaran.
