The public as well as the trade is discussing whether Aditya Chopra is doing the right thing by releasing his 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' on 12th December. With the scars of the terrorist attacks on Bombay city on 26th, 27th and 28th November still fresh, there is divided opinion on the release schedule. While some feel, Aditya should go ahead with the release next week, there are others who feel, he ought to postpone the films as the audience, not just in Bombay, but all over the country, is still not fully in a mood to visit the cinemas.
However, India's top trade expert feels otherwise and says, " Aditya Chopra should not change the release date." Elaborating on the reasons he goes on , "Although the worst terror attack has left the country shell-shocked and its people will take months, maybe years, to recover from the trauma, it must be said that a fortnight’s gap between the time the attacks ended and the film’s release is not less for a big film like 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. Secondly, the film may actually witness one of the greatest openings, not just because the trailers and the songs of the film are being spoken of in highly laudatory terms but also because the public, tired and depressed after watching news of the attacks and their aftermath on television screens, is actually waiting for a true entertainer to divert its mind. Thirdly, Shah Rukh Khan is coming to the cinemas after 13 months (his last release was 'Om Shanti Om' which had hit the screens on 9th November last year). Fourthly, Aditya Chopra, who has a cent per cent track record, has directed a film after eight years (his last film, 'Mohabbatein', was released on 27th October 2000)."So let’s just keep our fingers crossed for peace to return to the nation and the box-office!
