The rise of Parineeti Chopra...superstar in the making
- Pankaj Kumar Sinha           Let us know what you think about this feature article

The Hindi film industry has been largely male dominated. But we have had a few actresses who have been able to stand up to any heroes. We have had actresses like Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit, who pulled crowds to theatres on their own. They were the combination of good looks, great dancing and brilliant acting. These superstar actresses were the true scene stealers under the nose of their male counterpart.

But after Madhuri Dixit, we have not had any actress following this trend. Kajol was a great actress but she wasn’t a superstar. Vidya Balan is another stupendous actress with box office success in heroine dominated films like ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahani’. But they were different kind of films. Katrina Kaif has done well at box office. She has great looks and has also become a brilliant dancer. But her acting performances don’t touch the heart. Also she has to work hard on her Hindi diction.

Deepika Padukone can be a superstar. She has all ingredients to be that if she chooses the right kind of films. Currently her movies are doing well at the box office and a little more polishing on her acting skills will take her a long way. She also needs to work on her personal image and has been linked to far too many people.

Parineeti Chopra has come onto the scene like a fresh spark to Hindi film industry. She is just four films old but we can already see a superstar actress in the making. She is one of the few actresses who has stolen the show from her heroes in all her four films. Parineeti has great expressions and her dialogue delivery is spot on. Her Hindi diction is the best among the current crop of actresses. Her timing is also superb and she is also very good at emotional scenes. She may not be the best dancer around but she can improve in that area.

Parineeti’s real life personality also stands out. She doesn’t look fake at all and is quite media savvy. She looks confident and intelligent. Her media interactions are good fun to watch and this lady has a sense of humor. It will be interesting to watch the two brilliant cousin actresses Priyanka Chopra and Parineeti Chopra acting in a same film. From her first film, Parineeti has left a good mark for herself in the industry. In her debut film ‘Ladies Versus Ricky Behl’, she had an extended cameo but she stole the show with her one liners and timing. She was the best thing about the movie despite Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma also being part of the film.

With ‘Ishaqzaade’, she went up a level; her acting performance was top notch. She played a Muslim girl in the film but her character broke a lot of inhibitions in the film. She was fiery but still emotional. Again she stole the show from debutant actor Arjun Kapoor. In her next film ‘Shudd Desi Romance’, she broke the stereotype of Indian women. The emotional vulnerability within her character was played well. The movies are being promoted on her name. Parineeti has been clever in her choice of films. She has done medium budget films with younger heroes. She has not got into diktats of Bollywood and has created her own niche.

Her latest film ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ belongs to her and leans over her shoulders. The movie entertains. Parineeti Chopra is the hero of the film. Siddharth Malhotra plays second fiddle to her. She once again proves to be a scene stealer. This movie will take her career to a higher level. Now we need to see her in films with bigger stars of the industry and it's clear they have already shown interest to work with her. We are potentially seeing a superstar actress of the future...
