Every day thousands of young aspirants arrive in Mumbai, the city of dreams, from different parts of the country to become actors but only a few get to have their moment under the sun. After doing theatre back home in Lucknow, Pooja Saxena came to Mumbai to try her luck on the big screen. In this interview, she talks about her journey that has been tough but rewarding at the same time.

You were born and brought up in Lucknow. When and how did you come to Mumbai to become an actress?

I was dreaming of becoming an actress from a very young age. I started doing theatre in Lucknow but I wanted to come to Mumbai to pursue a career in films. My family was very supportive and they encouraged me to go to Mumbai and try my luck in films. Anup Jalota ji was a family friend. He was going to start a few projects at that time and asked me to be a part of them. I could not work with him then as I was dealing with some personal issues.

Most of the actors go through a long spell of struggle before they get a break. Did you go through a similar phase?

My parents had lived in Mumbai for a while and they had warned me about the struggle I would have to go through once I land in the city. I was not really aware of it but I thought even I have to struggle a lot I should be okay wit it as it is not possible to achieve anything in life without going through hardships. It has been a few years in Mumbai and I have gone through a lot of struggle. I have no complaints as at the end of day, this is the profession I wanted to be in.

Which has been your most special role till date and why?

I had done a film called 'Aghori'. The role that I had played in that film is very close to my heart. I also got the opportunity to work with some veteran actors and got to learn a lot from them.

The digital space is booming in India right now. Do you have any plans of doing something on the digital platform?

My focus has always been to work on good projects with good people. I had just a ten second role in 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji' but I agreed to be a part of the film as it was an opportunity to work with a good filmmaker like Madhur Bhandarkar. I would ideally like to be a part of projects that are based on social issues and convey a message to the society. If a good offer comes from any of the digital platforms, I will be happy to take it up.

What's next?

I am working on a woman-oriented film called 'Mandakini'. We are yet to shoot some parts of the film. It is a very important film as it will give a strong message to the society.
