15 Years Of Ishq Vishk
- Anish Mohanty           Let us know what you think about this article

Fifteen years back, a film starring newcomers hit the theatres. Though it was produced by a big production house (Tips) and had Anu Malik, one of the top music directors of the time, doing the music for the film, the team largely consisted of people who were involved with a feature film for the very first time. The film in question was 'Ishq Vishk', a college romance that was lapped up by the audience when it released and enjoys a good viewership on television and home video till date. As the film celebrates fifteen years of its release, we bring to you some interesting facts related to it.

1. 'Ishq Vishk' had three leading stars, namely, Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao and Shehnaz Tresuryvala (now Shehnaz Treasury). It widely believed that the film marked the debut of these actors. While Shahid and Shehnaz indeed made their feature film debut with this film, Amrita Rao had earlier played the lead role in two films released in the previous year. She made her debut in the forgettable 'Ab Ke Baras' and then, played Bhagat Sigh's love interest in Rajkumar Santoshi's 'The Legend Of Bhagat Singh'. Unlike 'Ab Ke Baras', 'The Legend Of Bhagat Singh' was a critical success but both the film faced a similar fate at the box-office.

2. As stated earlier, 'Ishq Vishk' was the first film for both Shahid and Shehnaz but both of them had some fair amount of experience behind the camera. Shahid was a part of choreographer Shiamak Davar's troupe and was a background dancer in Subhash Ghai's 'Taal' (1999). He had also done a couple of music videos like "Kehna To Hai" with Ayesha Takia and "Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra" with Harshita Bhatt. Shehnaz was a popular face on television courtesy her VJing stint on MTV.

3. Despite sharing screen space with Pankaj Kapur in one film ('Shaandaar'), Shahid Kapoor never got the opportunity to play his son in a film. He did get an opportunity to play his real-life mother Neelima Azim's son in his very first film. Satish Kaushik and Neelima Azim played Shahid's parents in the film. After this film, they never got an opportunity to share screen space in a film.

4. The film also marked the debut of a young actor who later appeared as a leading man in a few films. Kapil Jhaveri essayed the role of Javed, one of Shahid's classmates in college. You might remember him as the arrogant young man who mocked Rajib (Shahid Kapoor) and Mambo (Vishal Malhotra) for being singe. Kapil made his debut as a lead actor later that year with 'Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya'. The film tanked at the box-office. He also shared screen space with Salman Khan in 'Saawan The Love Season' (2006).

5. After 'Ishq Vishk' Shahid Kapoorr collaborated with Ken Ghosh on two more films, 'Fida' and 'Chance Pe Dance'. Interestingly, all the three films Shahod has done with Ghosh are different from each other. 'Ishq Vishk' was a romantic comedy, 'Fida' was a thriller and 'Chance Pe Dance' was a dance based film. Unfortunately, apart from 'Ishq Vishk', none of the other films could manage to strike a chord with the audience.

There are talks of an 'Ishq Vishk 2' in the making. While one is not sure if a film like that is happening, if it does happen the fans of the original would surely be looking forward to it.
