2001 is a suspense thriller that has everything a suspense thriller should have - music, stars, action, blood, acting - except one crucial element: SUSPENSE!!! This movie is not a bad one but I certainly expected more from the makers of that brilliant movie called KHOJ. The makers of this film are not sure whether it should be an action flick or a taunt thrill ride filled with mystery and mayhem.
2001 stars Jackie and newcomer Rajat as two good cops who are on the trail of a serial killer who slices and dices the victims and then carves the number "2001" into their bodies. The film is really jerky, providing a thrill and then stoping it dead in itĀ“s tracks for another boring song sequence. It begins with a major political figure being blackmailed by his cocaine snorting mistress after having vigorous sex with her (I canĀ“t believe what they show in Hindi movies these days). A few hours later, she is found dead in a hotel room with "2001" engraved in her back with a knife. The movie takes off from there with our two heroes trying to catch the killer. I have to hand it to the script writers. You will never guess who the killer is. Tabu plays RajatĀ“s love interest in a worthless role. Dimple has a great role as the wife of Jackie. She is definitely the leading lady of this film. It surprises me that Tabu would take a secondary role. Plot twists, galore follow and finally, the killer is revealed. A blood bath ensues.
All major players in the film have performed well. Newcomer Rajat is amazing in all the action scenes. He can also act very well. It is my guess that he will strike gold among the movie goers. Tabu really has no role in the film. All she does is sing a few songs and act plain stupid. She looks really pretty, though. Dimple has surprised me. She not only acts well, but looks very beautiful and young. Jackie is very good in his role. As for the villains, they are all over the place. Only Grover shows any acting talent. There were some unsuitable scenes in the movie that viewers like us donĀ“t need to see. For example, Jackie is
shown in two lengthly scenes relieving himself in the bathroom. Also, Rajat and Jackie compare genitalia size in one scene. What is WORNG with script and dialogue writers today? Music is okay. Two songs are good while the rest are just okay. "Teri Yeh Bindia" and "Yehi To Pyar Hai" are two great tracks from the film. Direction is average. All in all, this movie is worth a watch but could have been MUCH better if the script was more suspenseful. There were also too many song sequences. An average fare from great film makers.
