The year began with Khakee, and then came other cop dramas such as: Ab Tak Chappan, Bardaasht, Charas, Aan, Dev. . . Phew! How easily, we can name the films made on cops (this year), but there are very few, which we can name as a high-quality product; Police Force is not one of them.

To be honest, I was bored from very beginning of the film. Vijay Singh (Akshay Kumar) and Roma (Raveena Tandon) meet in one city and fall in love. Vijay is a policeman in training under the guidance of Pandey (Amrish Puri). He teaches the cadets to fight for the truth with conviction and this is where the drama begins. The viewer is subjected to the same thing seen in a million films (with very little new twists): corrupt politicians + bad cops VS. good, honest, and righteous cops.

So we have 2 politicians: Dadda bhai (Govind Namdeo) and Raatan Sethi (Raj Babbar) running against one another in the elections. Vijay is sent to Mumbai to help officers in the elections. He witnesses the murder of a leader, Sawant, and even gets involved in a shoot-out. Vijay discovers that a cop was involved in the murder and wants answers. The politicians, along with another corrupt officer, Bhosle (Mohan Joshi), do everything possible to stop him. Vijay gets accused of taking drugs and killing two colleagues. He is sent to jail and tortured.

It does not take much to already know that Vijay will fight for justice and take the law into his own hands.

Snooze . . . I heard this story was based on a real life situation. Personally, if the movie had released a few years, it might’ve worked. With the surge of cop films hitting the marquee, the topic is becoming stale and annoying. In Police Force, the viewer can already tell that the cop will kill the politicians. In real life, I am sure that there is corruption among the politicians and cops, but the film offers no real solution.

As mentionned, the movie is stale. We literally see Akshay Kumar’s hair change from one scene to another. Another thing is the inconsistency of the scenes (Govind Namdeo and Alok Nath are a lot bigger today).

Akshay Kumar excels everytime he plays a policeman because he nails the action sequences and brings depth to his character. Since this is the 3rd film where he plays a cop (this year), it gets tedious to watch him scream his lines. Raveena Tandon has touched up her acting skills over the last few years, that is why it is unfortunate that this year she is subjected to having old projects such as Yeh Lamhe Judaai Ke and Police Force release. In this film, she has no real role, she plays Akshay’s love and that’s about it. She is also the police Commissioner’s daughter (just as a coincidence, of course). The other performances are below average, with the exception of Amrish Puri. Music by Anand-Milind and lyrics by Sameer are unnecessary. Direction by Dilip Shukla is nothing special. Frankly, it would’ve been better if the film never released.

Our recommendation is that you check out a better quality cop flick such as Khakee or Ab Tak Chappan.
