Vikram Bhatt’s latest offering Awara Paagal Deewana has a plethora of stars. Vikram has made several hit movies in the past few years. His movies have been good, but his music has been the real treasure. Not the case this time, though. The music is absolutely horrible.

Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik, Shaan, Udit Narayan, Sarika & Sunidhi sing the first song, “Jise Hasna Rona Hai”, trying to bring it to a decent song, but even their singing doesn’t bring it above the mediocre. The music is nothing more than average, but the main problem, is the lackluster spirit of the song. I just don’t think Malik put any time into the song! It sounds as though Anu Malik has just put together a mix of his older songs.

After that first song, you may think that something positive is going to come out of the rest of the album. Well, then you would be wrong. “Maine To Khai” starts out odd, and just gets worse as it continues. A low-pitched male chorus sings a “scary” start with no enthusiasm. Sunidhi then starts singing with tones similar to songs from the movie Pehla Nasha… not the song, the movie. Abhijeet follows her. Then, somehow, there are these odd Spanish beats. Uhh… enough… fast forward already!

“More Saweria” starts with the same low pitched chorus that plagued the previous song… and then some slow music turns into a fast paced tap number… which then turns into, well, a typical Anu Malik song. Oh yeah, not to mention the annoying background voice saying something that I could never figure out. Sunidhi starts the song with an annoying “More Saweria” repitition. Anu Malik starts singing, and then I forwarded the rest of the song. Didn’t he get the hint a few years ago? Shaan also joins in this song, but it wasn’t worthy of a full listen.

Ahh… the title song “Awara Paagal Deewana”. Maybe that’ll give some relief. Well, if you don’t have “More Saweria” still in your mind, then maybe. Or maybe you already took out the tape and started recording something else on it. If you bought a CD, I’m sorry. Shaan and Sunidhi sing this song… which isn’t even half as bad as the previous two. Although that isn’t saying much, this song is actually worth a listen once. Ok, maybe not even once, but its not that bad. Its really just another typical Anu Malik song with a slow beat and good singing, but it still has the familiarity of “Baazigar o Baazigar”.

Sonu Nigam and Anuradha Paudwal sing another slow song, “Yeh Tune Kya Kiya”. Sonu is very deliberate and good, though it sounds, again, like something I have heard before. Anuradha has low notes with a very little amount of high notes, which actually keeps the song listen-able. But this song in the end, ends up to be an average number in a below average album.

Adnan Sami, Shaan, and Sunidhi finish off the album trying to salvage something from a pile of, well, you know what. The music that starts off the song, though, the song, “Ya Habibi”, continues to get worse. Adnan Sami sounds horrible, he should stick to the type of songs he is good at. Oh well, nice try.

Even the love theme is not listen-able. I think Anu Malik should be a little bit more selective in the movies he chooses. Furthermore, I would hope that he can give some effort when he does his work. But, I’m glad he makes my job easy… its pretty easy to rip apart an album that’s so horrible.
