Opinion Poll: Has "Love Story 2050" lived up to the hype?

Love Story 2050 has been in the news for months. It was hyped for all the right reasons: it’s new to have a sci-fi movie in Bollywood, Priyanka has red hair, we were being introduced to a good looking new actor, etc. Sadly, the movie falls below all expectations. It’s a glossy film that is beautiful minus a story.

The story starts in Present Day (Mumbai): a rich industrialist’s son, Karan (Harman Baweja), is very carefree. He falls in love with the shy and sweet Sana (Priyanka Chopra) and sings a few songs. Sana meets Karan’s family, including his Uncle Ya (Boman Irani), who worked for years to create a time machine. Yes, he looks like Einstein and very eccentric.

All is well until there is an accident and Karan decides to go to the future to make things right. He lands up in Mumbai in 2050 to find Sana, only to realize she doesn’t know who he is. So our hero goes on an adventure to win her heart again and also fight a ridiculous and evil villain.

Looking back, Love Story 2050 is a technical treat. The music, choreography, art direction, special effects, they all gel well to add power to the film. I blame Harry Baweja for writing a story with no real plot. The screenplay is a complete letdown and dialogues come off as cheesy. The editing in the action sequences is quite interesting.

I’ll give credit to Baweja for extracting decent performances from the main cast. It was refreshing to see Priyanka Chopra back on the screen, unfortunately she looks bored as Sana and a vicious with red hair, however, she made her characters believable. As for Harman, I welcome him with open arms for his rugged good looks, his acting, dancing, and charms. He just needs to distance himself from further movies with his father and we got ourselves good new blood in Bollywood. All the other characters are effective including the talking teddy bear.

Overall, if you are a big fan of sci-fi, then do watch the movie, but otherwise it’s really disappointing and boring!
