I personally expected a lot from this album, which was a big
mistake on my part. After all of the Govinda-David Dhawan-Anand Milind films, I thought it
might be a great change to see Anu Malik giving music for this Dhawan comedy. The last
time this happened, the results were definitely not too bad (Judwaa),
and after "Border" - Anu has given interviews in every
film monthly talking about how he's turned over a new leaf. This might be a new leaf, but
the tree is the same old fare we've heard in every Nth Dhawan film..
The title song could have been much better - perhaps with better lyrics - but manages to just pass as a filler. Udit Narayan sounds good, as usual, but he is joined by - of all things - a Poornima sound-alike! Her name is Anuradha Sriram and she sings in 4/6 of these songs, but personally, I prefer the queen of raunchiness to her imposter.
Next, we have "Tara Raara Raara Ra" - which is all Tara Raara Wrong. It has somewhat of a catchy beat, but is nothing special by any means - just a typical Dhawan film filler song with Kumar Sanu and Ms. Sriram doing the vocals.
"Rub Jaane Bhai Rub Jaane" is supposed to be a catchy-upbeat number, but succeeds only on the upbeat part, despite the presence of Udit, a more decent sounding Anuradha S., and a rather stupid-sounding Anu Malik. With lyrics like "Yeh Plus Bhi Hai, Yeh Minus Bhi Hai" (which Shankar Mahadevan pronounces as "Puh-luss" and "Mi-a-nus"...), all I can say for "Ghunghat Mein Chehara" is that it is way too "tapori" for an Anil Kapoor flick and is just a big MI-A- NUS!
I actually liked the next song "Nepal Ki Thandi Hawa" mainly because of the novel instrumentals and beat. Udit/Anuradha S. sound pretty good, but Anu Malik keeps interrupting the flow of the songs with what sounds like a hideous imitation of Sudesh Bhonsle's hijra-esque Bachchan impression. If wishes were mute buttons...
"Love Love Kar Le" is just plain vulgar, with a guy begging a girl for sex (I couldn't tell if it was the Gharwali or the Baharwali). True, it is nice to hear the original - Poornima - over the copy in this song, and her raunchiness is right at home in this song. There are some interesting nicknames for sex in this song, like Ting Ting, Tuk Tuk, and Ring Ring. Dumb Dumb is my new nickname for this song.
The last song uses the phrase "Time Kaahe Waste Kare", which is what I found myself saying while listening to this album. I should have realized that any production company stupid enough to cast the dark and plump Rambha as a Nepali beauty (!) could not have had enough sense to produce a decent score. Let's hope that David Dhawan realizes that a film does not run on comedy and vulgarity alone. Music is very important in the market today, and with flops like "Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi" and "Banarasi Babu" (which even Govinda and a "Sansananan" couldn't save..) behind him, David better BEWARE!
