Satish Kaushik's directorial venture Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain is a promising romance drama starring the forever young Anil Kapoor, Kajol, and Mink Singh. The music by Anu Malik, however, ranges from good to bad to just plain awful. Side A contains some fantastic tunes but Side B isn't even fit enough to be road kill. Lyricist Sameer's inane lyrics do nothing to help this already butchered musical score.

The first song on the album is very catchy and is probably the best song in the album. "Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain" sung by Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal  is very good and very similar to Kareeb's Chori Chori. The singing is just competent however.

Song two is also very catchy and will have you singing along. "Zara Aakhon Mein" is a love ballad with the same beat as A. R. Rahman's Strawberry Aankhen from Sapnay. This song is also an instant winner and has competent singing from Anuradha Paudwal and Kumar Sanu.

"Kasam Se Kasam Se" is also very similar to Chori Chori and takes some getting used to. After a few listens however, I began to really like the song. The love ballad has interesting lyrics by Sameer and the song is sung well by, once again, Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal.

The last song on Side A, "Hai Hai Hai Jata Hai Kahan" is very very catchy and sounds like something out of John Travolta's Grease. I liked the song a lot. It reminded me of one of those numbers from a American 50s beach epic. A very swing style to it. The singing is typical Hema Sardesai style, sweet and sexy. Anu Malik sings quite competently also.

Perhaps the one remotely listenable song on the second side is Chup Gaya, which is rendered very beautifully by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan.

The first song on Side B almost made me smash my tape deck to little bits. "Pappa Main Pappa Ban Gaya" is perhaps one of the most irritating and annoying songs I have ever heard. If I ever meet Shankar Mahadevan in public, after I'm done with him, he'll be singing Hijra Main Hijra Ban Gaya. Sameer should be punished for writing up such an annoying song. I can't explain to you how annoying the song is. The rest of the tape goes just as badly.

After the great tracks Anu recorded on the first side, I expected this album to go places. Unfortunately, after a great Side A, the album just got plain ugly. My advice? Buy it for the good songs on Side A, tape over the second side. It'll save your sanity, I swear!!! Hopefully, the movie will be a tad better than some of this garbage posing as "songs". Yeesh!
