Anand-Milind have proved with this album that they
are grossly neglected and undervalued by the Indian film industry. Not only can the duo
compose great funky tunes that make you wanna dance, but they are also great at beautiful
classical music based compositions. Proof of the latter is the amazing music they have
given for Mrityu Dand. If the quality of the music for this film is any indication, this
film could resuscitate Madhuri's drowning career. (Classical music based tunes like
Dastak, Maachis and Koyla seem to be more popular these days.)
Lyrics for the album are provided by a very popular and in-demand Javed Akhtar who does not disappoint his fans. And Sadhana Sargam proves with this album that she is also grossly neglected despite having a great voice.
There are five songs in the album. The first song sung by Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam is very good. Unfortunately, the lyrics though good are not easy to remember.
The second song is sung by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan is called 'Keh Do Ek Baar Sajana'. It is simple, lively and probably going to be the most popular song from the film on the hit parade.
A solo by Sadhana Sargam is 'Raja Main To Ho Gayee' I believe is a nautanki song and is unfortunately not very exceptional quality wise. Sadhana's other solo, however 'Kab Se Main Hoon Khadi Beech Dhare' is my personal favorite from the album, as it is deeply moving and the lyrics about a woman facing troubled times in her life are very poignant. (You know I will always commend South East Asian women for the amount of culture-based hardships and responsibilites they must endure in their lives.)
Here is hoping that this multi-starcast film by Prakash Jha is as good as the music.
