India's top civilian awards, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri were announced today in the capital New Delhi.

Noted playback singer Asha Bhosle has been chosen for the Padma Vibhushan award, while Bollywood queen Madhuri Dixit, actor Tom Alter and well known Hollywood film maker of Indian origin, Manoj Night Shyamalan have been honoured with Padma Shri.

For the 7th consecutive year, no one has been chosen for the country's highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna.
