Dancers from city-based Shiamak Davar Dance Academy will lead locals from Down Under tomorrow, in an attempt to set a new record for the 'Largest Bollywood Dance'.

The attempt will be held at the Moomba Cultural Quarter on the banks of Melbourne’s iconic Yarra River. The dancers will shake legs to last year’s hit song ‘Munni Badnam Hui’ from ‘Debaang’. Bollywood actress Malaika Arora-Khan who performed the song in the film will be cheering the participants.

The Melbourne crowd will need at least 2,000 participants to break the previous record of 1,082 dancers set in Singapore in 2009, organisers said in a release in Mumbai.

The event is part of the second ‘Indian Film Festival (IFF): Bollywood and Beyond (IFF)’. This year’s IFF features over 30 films, including 15 Australian premieres, that include celebration of traditional Bollywood sequins and fantasy, and depth of contemporary Indian film.

According to the Australian Tourism Forecasting Committee, the average annual growth rate in inbound tourism from India to Australia between 2010 and 2020 will touch 8.2 per cent and the total visitors from India to Australia is forecast to increase to 3,18,000 for the year 2020.
