 There is a heart wrenching scene in ‘Black & White’, after Shefali Shah is killed. Anil Kapoor, who plays her husband in the film, is completely shattered to to see her dead body and is barely able to speak when Anurag Sinha, who has been given shelter by the couple, comes on the scene. Except for mumbling something and incoherently trying to speak, Anil is able to do precious little in his state of shock. Although Anil dubbed the sounds and sighs well, producer-director Subhash Ghai thought it could be improved. And so what did Ghai do? He had the scene played in the dubbing studio over again, put on the earphones, and closing his eyes, went “Ah……oh….woh…k..mm..” Nobody in the audience would ever realize that the scene has not been dubbed by Anil Kapoor, but the fact is that the voice is that of Subhash Ghai.
Anyway, ‘Black & White’ is one of the few films by Ghai, in which he does not make a cameo appearance. He can at least have the satisfaction of having dubbed a scene in it, if not having faced the camera for it!
