Sharon stone not invited for film fest after ´Karma´ remark

"And then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is due to Karma, when you're not nice the bad things happen to you", the 50-year-old star of "Basic Instinct" film fame said at the Cannes film Festival while describing the Dalai Lama, reviled by China, as a "good friend".

"Stone is not among the list of guests to be invited", an official from the organising committee of the Shanghai film festival was quoted as saying by the state-run China Daily.

The committee had not so far issued any official statement regarding a permanent ban on Stone, he said. Earlier reports said the film festival would ban the actress from attending the events on a permanent basis.

"Stone and her films will not appear at the Shanghai International Film festival, and will never, never", Tang Lijun, Deputy Secretary General of the Festival, was quoted as saying on the news website Xinmin.Cn on Wednesday last.

The actress attended last year's festival as the Image Ambassador of French cosmetic giant Christian Dior, for which China is the fastest growing market.

Dior has dropped Stone as the pitch-woman for its skin care products and pulled advertisements featuring her from stores across China. Stone has since apologised for her remarks.
