London, Jun 15 (PTI) Nearly a year after her marriage with Indian businessman Arun Nayar, rumours of British actress Elizabeth Hurley's past "affair" with American comedian Denis Leary have resurfaced. Both Hurley and Leary had dismissed the rumours in the year 2001, saying they were "just good friends". Seven years on, a book penned by the US actor's wife Ann Leary has revived the rumours, with a character appearing to resemble Hurley, leading British newspaper the 'Daily Mail' reported today.
Hurley famously wore a revealing Versace safety-pin dress when she attended the premiere of 'Four Weddings And A Funeral' film and later had a son with billionaire Steve Bing. She was even said to have had an "intimate dinner" with Leary in 2001 after her break-up with Bing. In the story, wife Julia Ferraro accidentally finds a suggestive voicemail message from a woman left for her husband Joe, a TV actor. She stalks Joe to find who the woman is and discovers Australian actress Susanna Mercer. At first, Julia rules out Susanna but when she visits the two actors filming in Mexico, she discovers Susanna has persuaded her husband to go on a carb-free diet. Hurley, 43, went on a similar diet before her wedding last year to Nayar. However, Ann Leary has insisted that any similarity between her novel's character and her "good friend Elizabeth" is coincidental. "I can see how people would think I was talking about our dear friend Elizabeth. But, in fact, Susanna was a small character I created, who was not based on Elizabeth Hurley at all," she said.
