The Next Step Foundation honoured Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty with the esteemed Global Diversity Award at the annual Diversity Gala Dinner, which took place at the Riverbank Park Plaza Hotel, London on 1st July 2008.
At the evening Gala Dinner, Guest of Honour, Rt Hon David Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs, presented Shilpa Shetty with the special award on behalf of the Next Step Foundation, which this year focused on the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. Alongside Shilpa, British racing driver Lewis Hamilton was also presented with an award at the dinner, where other key guests included Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
The Next Step Foundation is a non-partisan not-for-profit organisation that promotes and celebrates diversity and leadership development issues in the UK. The key mission of the Foundation is to ensure that diversity is kept at the top of Britain’s agenda, by encouraging action and stimulating discussion at the highest levels of the public and private sectors.
Previous recipients of the award have included singer and UK Ambassador for the Food and Agricultural Organisation, Dionne Warwick; movie star and Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations’ Children’s Fund, Jackie Chan; and one of the biggest names in British news broadcasting and the UK’s first black woman newsreader, Moira Stuart.
