Kolkata, July 11 (PTI) Forty years after Satyajit Ray's musical fantasy 'Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne' set a benchmark for children's films in Bengali, his director-son Sandeep is mulling a proposal to reinvent the adventures of the two musician wizards in a contemporary backdrop. The sequel, which would be the fourth, can become a reality in another two years if Sandip can decide on the storyline and work out details retaining the original flavour. "I have received offers from a producer for a new Goopy Bagha film, but I have a lot of work in my hands right now," he told PTI.
The essence of the original by popular Bengali children's writer Upendra Ki shore Roy, the grandfather of Satyajit, would have to be retained with the story told in a style familiar to modern day children. He would also have to decide on the nitty gritties including location of the new Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne film. "Certain things can't be done with computer graphics as it will rob the film of its character," Sandip said.
